About Us

Grant Pritchard-Gordon

Grant qualified as a Chartered Surveyor, but quickly moved back to his passion for racing and joined Keith Freeman Bloodstock agency in 1975. Here he obtained a strong grounding in pedigrees and a first introduction to management when assisting in the overseeing of Dr Carlo Vittadini's interests at Beech House Stud, Newmarket and his stallions Grundy, Habat and Orange Bay. Travelling extensively to Japan, Australasia, South Africa and America, Grant developed a strong client base for the agency business and was involved with many stallion deals, notably Rheingold, Wollow, Roi Lear, Jungle Cove, Imperial March etc..

In 1982, Grant was approached by Prince Khalid Abdullah to join his Juddmonte Farms, where he became Racing Manager for 17 years. During this time, he managed the careers of more than 2000 horses and oversaw 75 Group 1/Grade 1 successes in the famous Abdullah colours. His close involvement with the race programmes of colts such as Dancing Brave, Rainbow Quest, Zafonic, Warning, Commander in Chief, Rousillon, Distant View, Danehill and Quest for Fame instilled the need for detailed planning to ensure maximum value for a subsequent stallion career. His close involvement with the fillies that retired to the paddocks has given him a rare insight into the differing characters, conformation and qualities of a broodmare band that is now the leading breeding operation in the world. Fillies such as Slightly Dangerous, Seven Springs, Toussaud, Ryafan, Bahamian, Interval, Ballinderry, Razyana, Media Luna , Zaizafon and Hasili all passed through his hands before becoming outstanding matrons at stud.

Grant was responsible for all public and private sales from the Juddmonte Racing stable. He also worked closely with the stud team on matings and appraisals of young stock.

Grant stepped down from his Juddmonte employment in 1999. Following a short period away from the Bloodstock Industry, Grant returned to set up Badgers Bloodstock Consultants in 2002. Since then, he has travelled extensively, renewing his agency contacts and forming associations with leading lights in other Bloodstock industries.

Grant is a Director of both The Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Federation of Bloodstock Agents.

Tom Pritchard-Gordon

Tom joined Badgers Bloodstock as a partner in 2004 having obtained a 2:1 in Equine Science and Thoroughbred Management at Oxford Brookes University. He has also spent lengthy stints working with leading trainers Bobby Frankel in America and Amanda Perrett in England.

Tom specialises in the purchase of horses-in-training, mating plans, pedigrees and statistical research. However, he is an integral part of the yearling inspection team & attends every major sale in Europe and Australasia throughout the year.

Tom has the responsibility of overseeing the breeding arm of Clients mares in Europe and monitoring the daily progress of their horses-in-training.

Sam Pritchard-Gordon

Upon graduating from a Yacht Design degree, Sam was quick to change his sailing shoes for Wellington boots and was immediately drafted into the Badgers Bloodstock office, where he has been a partner in the family run Badgers Bloodstock Llp since 2005.

Sam has spent time with both Juddmonte Farms in Newmarket and Arrowfield stud in Australia… the latter giving him the opportunity to work alongside John Messara in his Sydney office, through which he developed a solid understanding of Australian racing and breeding as seen through the eyes of Australia’s leading breeder. Gai Waterhouse, Australia’s ‘First Lady of Racing’, was quick to draft Sam into working at the forefront of her training operation and for a 12 month stint Sam worked as an assistant at Tulloch Lodge.  In 2007, Sam was employed by Australia’s leading trainer Lee Freedman to fulfil the “Racing Manager’s” role that is so essential in today’s era of communication.

In October 2011 Sam set up training at Kingscote Stables in Mornington, Australia.
